The Flight Calculator
Estimate the carbon footprint of a flight, per passenger
Our free flight emissions calculator estimates the CO2e footprint of any flight, per passenger - accounting for aircraft type, cabin class, and the non-CO2 warming effects of flying like contrails and NOx. Find it under Flight calculator in the app, or at ecologi.com/flights.

Three ways to calculate
- By flight number (most accurate) - enter your outbound flight number and date (add a return if you need one); we look up the exact aircraft, airline efficiency and route. Then set your cabin class and number of passengers.
- By route - enter your origin and destination airports, year of travel and cabin class for a reliable estimate.
- Bulk upload - calculate many flights at once by uploading them together.
Select Calculate to see the per-passenger emissions in kg CO2e.
How it works
The calculator uses the Google Travel Impact Model (the industry-standard model), which factors in aircraft type, fuel efficiency, passenger load, seat configuration, cabin class and route distance. It includes the upstream emissions of producing the fuel and the non-CO2 warming effects of flying at altitude - not just the CO2 from burning jet fuel. For the full detail, see our calculation methodology.
Why cabin class matters: business and first-class seats take up more space, so each passenger there is allocated a larger share of the flight’s fuel burn; economy spreads it across more seats, giving a lower per-person figure.
Once you know a flight’s footprint, you can fund equivalent climate impact in the Impact marketplace.
